Alaska Moose Hunting

Your Alaska/Yukon Moose Hunting Guide

I offer exceptional trophy moose hunting in pursuit of extremely large Alaska/Yukon moose.  The bull moose hunts are conducted within the Chugach Mountain Range, Talkeetna Mountains and the Nelchina Basin.  Hunts can be booked as either one-on-one or two-on-one (hunter:guide ratio).  During these premier moose hunts, black bear, wolf and wolverine are available no charge, and coastal Alaskan brown bear, interior mountain grizzly, Dall sheep, barren ground caribou and/or mountain goat are available on a fee, when killed in addition to killing a trophy bull moose.  Bull moose tags are available over-the-counter (OTC) or via lottery permit draw.

As mentioned, extremely large Alaska/Yukon moose can be found within the Chugach Mountain Range, Talkeetna Mountains and the Nelchina Basin.  Bull moose in these areas have an average antler width of 60 inches, with some antler widths exceeding 70 inches.  Antlers tend to be massive; with wide, long palms, and with numerous antler tines.  Therefore, bull moose from these areas of Alaska score well for the various record books (Boone & Crockett, Pope & Young, Safari Club International, etc.).  To be legal, bull moose from the areas that Robert hunts must have a minimum antler width of 50 inches.

Trophy moose hunting is a strenuous and oftentimes monotonous venture.  The very best moose habitat is mountainous, as mountain terrain offers moose a diversity of habitat types which allow moose to forage and escape predators.  Therefore, a person must access a vantage point from which to survey quality moose habitat.  Hiking and some climbing is involved when hunting moose, but only for accessing vantage points from which to survey huge expanses of terrain.  Hours and hours are then spent with powerful optics and this activity can become rather monotonous, but it pays big dividends when hunting trophy-class bull moose.  So, a hunter should be prepared for hiking and climbing, and long hours spent behind optics.

I utilizes highly modified Piper PA-18 aircraft to get to prime moose habitat, and he then establishes camps within that habitat, where he and a hunter pursue trophy bull moose.  Because camps are set in prime moose areas, it’s not at all uncommon to encounter moose right in camp or adjacent to a campsite.  In fact, record book bull moose have actually been killed near or at tent sites.  So a hunter be prepared to encounter a trophy bull moose at any time, even in camp.  Camps are not elaborate, but are the traditional Alaskan spike camp.  Nevertheless, camps are comfortable, warm, dry, relatively spacious and furnished with a sufficient supply of quality high-performance food.

So, if you’re wanting a trophy Alaska/Yukon moose to add to your collection of North American big game and you’re wanting to experience moose hunting in a way which most people never do, then look no further.  This is definitely a quality experience you won’t want to miss.  Robert Hardy thoroughly enjoys moose hunting and he would be thrilled to escort you on your quest for a premium Alaska/Yukon bull moose.  Plus, the educational experience a hunter derives during the course of a hunt with Robert is unparalleled.  Therefore, you’re strongly encouraged to act on this unique opportunity while Alaska moose hunting is at its very best.
